Rusty came to me from Rutland Manor, Australia, at twelve weeks of age in September of 2009. He’s been the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life.
RUTLAND MANOR’S ‘RUTLANDS RUSTY DOYLE’ Australian Cobberdog assisting his master’s recovery from cancer surgery
Captain Rick Doyle lives in beautiful Hawaii with his Australian CobberDog Service Dog Rusty. After a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy, he served during the Vietnam War Era. Rick was what’s called a black shoe in the Naval Air Force. He was stationed at NAS Miramar in San Diego, Ca which at the time was the home of Top Gun, of Tom Cruise fame. Rick is an accomplished photographer, and his dramatic action shots of his great love, the sea and surf, quickly gained acclaim.
Life was looking good for Rick, when suddenly he was struck down with life threatening cancer. In the dark days that followed his surgery, one of his physicians at the Triple Army Medical Centre recommended that a Service or Assistance Dog could be very useful in aiding his recovery.
Rusty made the trip from Rutland Manor in Australia, to Hawaii, as a three months old puppy and it was a match made in heaven from day one. Rusty unfortunately developed health issues himself, but his master left no stone unturned to care for his soulmate Rusty.
When the deepest, worst of Rick’s difficult recovery was over, Rusty accompanied Rick to his beloved beaches, and often towed Rick back into shore when feelings of weakness overcame him, and he assists Rick in many ways not the least, being his best buddy and closest companion.
RUSTY was awarded his AKC Canine Good Citizen Award in July 2010, was registered as an ALFA Companion Dog, a Certified Sercice Dog and worked with the Red Cross Service Dog organization.
